You put a product on TikTok Shop with a commission rate, a percentage of the sale price. A creator who promotes it earns that percentage on every sale their video or live drives. The platform takes its fee from the same sale, and you keep the rest. That is the whole mechanic. The part worth thinking about is not the rate. It is what the rate has to cover.

How the commission is set

You set the rate on the listing, not in a per-creator deal. A creator browsing the marketplace sees the rate and decides whether to pick up your product or one that pays better. So the rate is a filter as much as a payment. Too low and the creators who convert skip your listing. Too high and you are buying sales below your margin.

Who earns what

Three parties touch the same sale: the platform, the creator, and you. The creator earns the commission. The platform takes its fee. You keep what is left after the product cost and the shipping. On a thin-margin product, a commission that looks reasonable can erase the margin, which makes the rate a margin question before it is a marketing one.

Why the rate is not the cost

The visible cost of a partnership is the commission, the sample, and the shipping. The invisible cost is the creator who never posts, or posts and sells nothing, and you learn weeks later. A low commission that produces sales beats a high commission that produces none. The rate is the same for everyone on the listing. The outcome is not.

What it means for who you pick

Because the rate is fixed per listing, the only lever that changes your return is the creator. A small account already selling your category out-earns a large one treating your product as one more post. The commission does not care about follower count. It cares whether a sale happened.
